Monday Classes for 7th-8th Grade

​1st Period:
Computer (1st semester)/ Adv. Computer/CAD/3D printing (2nd semester) - (Lea S.)
- THIS CLASS IS FULL
1st semester: This class will focus on basic computer skills including keyboarding and learning computer programs such as Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. You will need a laptop or Chromebook for this course.
2nd semester options:
Basic continued- Students will continue working on computer programs for reports and class presentations.
Advanced- 3D CAD, Modeling and Printing- This class will use TinkerCAD and Fusion 360 to learn how to create and build an assortment of objects, models, buildings, toys, and more. The software is web based and free for students.

Heroes of the Faith- (Betsy T.)
What does a hero look like? We will explore biblical heroes starting with Abraham, Esther, and Elijah. We will discuss their virtues and characteristics. We will learn how we can apply them to every day life. *This class will require Canvas, quizzes, and a final paper.

Spanish 1 (8th grade) * - (Shannon R.) - THIS CLASS IS FULL
This will be a vigorous fast paced course to cover vocabulary and grammar of the Spanish language. All students would need to purchase Easy Spanish Step by Step (1st edition, available on Amazon) and I will purchase a membership to Voces, an online Spanish curriculum. Each child will need to pay $15 towards the cost of the class subscription. Most of our classes will be in Spanish (I shoot for 75% Spanish in class.) The only English spoken would be to discuss grammar. I look forward to teaching your child!

Drama - (Ann F.)
Students will improve their acting skills by practicing various scenes, working on ice breaker games, improvisation, and learning parts of plays. Spring semester, they will be working on and presenting a Passion Play. The fee for this class is $5.

2nd Period:
Introduction to Spanish * - (Shannon R.)
This is a fun class that will prepare students for Spanish 1. All students would need to purchase Espanol En Vivo Level 1. I will provide weekly songs and videos on YouTube for additional practice outside of the classroom. Most of our classes will be in Spanish. (I shoot for 75% Spanish in class.) I look forward to teaching your child!

Math Games/Pre-Algebra - (Lea S.)
This pre-algebra class is a concepts class based on Borenson Hands on Equations and Developing Fraction Sense manipulatives. Please check out the program at https://www.borenson.com. We will also reinforce basic math skills through games.

General Science - (Heather C.)
Science is the study of the structure and behavior of the physical and
natural world through observation and experiment. Science is an opportunity to try and
understand God’s plan for the world. In this General Science Class, we will both observe and
experiment with the world of Chemistry, Physics, Engineering and Biology. Each class there
will be experiments and/or activities, along with reading assignments, vocabulary and some
research to be completed as homework during the week. Students will need a 1 inch binder for this class.
The fee for this course is $20.
3rd Period:
Anatomy and Physiology - (Carrie F.)
We will use a mixture of classroom strategies to support the text, Master Book's Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology I. Each student will need access to the pair of textbooks and his own copy of the teacher guide as it contains the worksheets, quizzes, and tests with an answer key. The course materials are designed to be independent in format. Short reading quizzes will be given weekly. At least two dissections are planned (likely a chicken wing and a cow heart). Estimated homework time is 1.5-2 hours weekly. The fee for this class will be $5.
Mixed Media Arts- (Lauren L.) - THIS CLASS IS FULL
An experience of a variety of mediums: paint, clay, and decoupage to allow students an opportunity for creative expression. The fee for this course is $20.

Greek Mythology - (Tracy B.)
We will be looking into the major Greek myths, who was who in Greek Mythology, why the Greeks had these stories and what effect they had/have on life then and now. We will be doing projects, writing assignments, oral presentations, and quizzes which will require time at home each week. No specific books are needed. Access to the major Greek Myths, in any form, is all that is required as we will have weekly reading assignments. We may use Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, but I need to read through them before I am comfortable. The fee for this course is $5.
4th Period:

Art History/Art Appreciation- (Ann F.)
This year we will be exploring art from around the world. We will focus on art featuring Christ and how each culture represents Jesus in a way that speaks to their own people. We will also create art in different cultural styles. The fee for this class will be $5.

Public Speaking - (Kristel F.)
Students will have a variety of opportunities to practice preparing speeches and speaking in front of others. They will also learn a host of tips that will make presenting in front of a group more engaging and enjoyable for all!
Fee: $5, no book required; outside of class time = less than 1 hour
