Monday Classes for 9th - 12th Grade

​1st Period:
Computer (1st semester) and Adv. Computer/CAD/3D Printing (2nd semester)- (Lea S)
- THIS CLASS IS FULL
1st semester: This class will focus on basic computer skills including keyboarding and learning computer programs such as Word, Excel, and Power Point. You will need a laptop or Chromebook for this course.
2nd semester options:
Basic continued- Students will continue working on computer programs for reports and class presentations.
or
Advanced- 3D CAD, Modeling and Printing- This class will use TinkerCAD and Fusion 360 to learn how to create and build an assortment of objects, models, buildings, toys, and more. The software is web based and free for students. The fee for this course is $20.

Spanish 1 * - (Shannon R.) - THIS CLASS IS FULL
This will be a vigorous fast paced course to cover vocabulary and grammar of the Spanish language. All students would need to purchase Easy Spanish Step by Step (1st edition, available on Amazon) and I will purchase a membership to Voces, an online Spanish curriculum. Each child will need to pay $15 towards the cost of the class subscription. Most of our classes will be in Spanish (I shoot for 75% Spanish in class.) The only English spoken would be to discuss grammar. I look forward to teaching your child!

Algebra - (Patsy G.)
We will be using the Teaching Textbooks 4.0 online course for this class (https://www.teachingtextbooks.com/algebra1-version4.html). The course is $67.08 for one student (or less if you are on the family plan) and will need to be purchased via the TT website prior to the beginning of class. There will be no other charges for this class. I will teach through the basic concepts of each chapter over 1 or 2 weeks, depending on the complexity of each chapter. Students will need to complete the lessons throughout the week to prepare for the chapter tests. There are hints and teaching videos within the course. I will give a schedule at the beginning of the year of the testing goals, but parents will need to monitor the lesson progress and testing since I won’t have access to the students’ accounts. All work is graded through the online course.

Drama - (Ann F.)
Students will improve their acting skills by practicing various scenes, working on ice breaker games, improvisation, and learning parts of plays. Spring semester, they will be working on and presenting a Passion Play. The fees for this class will be $5.
2nd Period:
Literature and Composition - (Laura C.) - THIS CLASS IS FULL
Students will be expected to keep up with their reading assignments at home so that they can participate in classroom discussions in class. Students will need to answer comprehension questions for each book that we read using the Canvas platform each week before coming to class. We will complete some quizzes and tests in class about the reading selections throughout the year. Each student needs to have a spiral notebook dedicated to Lit and Comp. plus pencils in class every week. For each book, student will be expected to write a paper. There is a $5 fee/ semester to cover any copying costs.​ I am still working on the book list, but here is a list of books I am considering.

Economics (1st semester)/ Government (2nd semester) - (Cheyenne H.)
First semester, we will be using the text Exploring Economics by Ray Notgrass, 2016 edition. We will be gaining a general understanding of economics and what it means for your student in their adult life. I would like for your student to read ONE of the books listed below and write an essay on it by the end of the semester. Some of the book options are: The Travels of a T-shirt in a Global Economy, Mover of Men and Mountains (RG LeTourneau), Whatever Happened to Penny Candy, etc. The fee for this semester will be $5.
Second semester, we will using the text Exploring Government by Ray Notgrass, 2016 edition. We will learn about the government of the United States from its beginning to the present and we will be exploring the U.S. Constitution. Students will learn about federal, state, and local government with an emphasis on becoming equipped citizens that can navigate some of the challenges that we currently face in our nation. I would also like for your student to read ONE of the following books and write an essay on it by the end of the semester. Some of the book choices are: Mornings on Horseback, The Autobiography of Calvin Coolidge, Born Again, God and Ronald Reagan, or another approved book.
The fee for this semester will be $5.

Health - (Kristel F.)
This class will be full of engaging opportunities to learn how to live a healthy lifestyle. Students cover topics such as healthy eating, first-aid, addictions, the impact of stress, emotional well-being, and personal responsibility.
Fee: $20, no textbook required as a variety of sources will be utilized and provided in class or via the internet; there will be approx. 1-2 hours of homework each week outside of class

3rd Period:
Forensic Chemistry- (Cheyenne H.) - THIS CLASS IS FULL
We will be studying the many various ways that detectives and scientists solve crimes. We will be learning about fingerprinting, DNA sampling/blood typing, finding natural clues, ballistics, comparing and measuring impressions, entomology, poisons, lie detection, counterfeiting, etc, just to name a few.
The student will need a copy of DK Eyewitness Forensic Science (ISBN: 978-1-4654-9372-9). We will be doing a lab each week that relates to the topic we will be discussing. There will also be resources from various forensic science texts that will be provided. The cost of this course is $20.

Physical Science - (Laura C.) - THIS CLASS IS FULL
We will be using Apologia Physical Science for this course. Students will be expected to participate in class discussions and labs based on the reading they should have completed at home. We will be completing a variety of labs in class and students are expected to write lab reports at home following each lab and turn them in for a grade. We will be taking 4 unit tests in class. Students will need to prepare study guides at home to prepare for their tests. We will also have some pop quizzes in class to make sure that the students are keeping up with their assignments at home. There is a $20 fee for this class

Mixed Media Arts - (Lauren L.) - THIS CLASS IS FULL
An experience of a variety of mediums: paint, clay, and decoupage, to allow students an opportunity for creative expression. The fee for this class is $20.

Greek Mythology - (Tracy B.)
We will be looking into the major Greek myths, who was who in Greek Mythology, why the Greeks had these stories and what effect they had/have on life then and now. We will be doing projects, writing assignments, oral presentations, and quizzes which will require time at home each week. No specific books are needed. Access to the major Greek Myths, in any form, is all that is required as we will have weekly reading assignments. We may use Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, but I need to read through them before I am comfortable. The fee for this course is $5.

Art History/Art Appreciation - (Ann F.)
This year we will be exploring art from around the world. We will focus on art featuring Christ and how each culture represents Jesus in a way that speaks to their own people. We will also create art in different cultural styles. The fee for this class is $20.
