Monday Classes for 2nd - 3rd Grade​

1st Period:

Anatomy - My Body - (Valerie C.) THIS CLASS IS FULL

Using The Good and The Beautiful's "The Human Body, Part 1" curriculum, we will explore nine* of the main systems of the body: Skeletal, Muscular, Respiratory, Circulatory, Nervous, Digestive, Urinary, Immune, Integumentary. We will also learn about Genetics (which is not covered in the TGTB curriculum).

*The Endocrine and Reproductive systems are not included in the TGTB curriculum

Students will learn the purpose of each body system, the main organs of the system and their specific functions, and how the organs work together in order for the system and body to function as a whole. 

This is an introduction to the human body and will not require any major homework. Parents will be provided with plenty of resources for books and/or videos on each topic so that they may dive as deep they would like to at home with each section.

Students will need a binder or spiral notebook to write notes and paste worksheets. (And, of course, things like a pencil, glue, and scissors).  NO textbook required. The fees for this course will be $20.

 
Art - (Lauren L.) 

Art focus this year will to smooth out paint strokes, understanding lines and shapes, working with proportion and near and far in landscapes, mixing primary colors to make secondary colors, and playing with warm and cool colors.  we will work on our understanding that paper shapes can make art and how to add detail for personalization and working with different mediums to create layered art.  Class fee will be $20.

2nd Period:
PE -(Kristina H.) THIS CLASS IS FULL

This class is designed to bring fun and physical activity to each child.  We will play gaga ball, dodgeball, soccer, and running  

games plus more throughout this school year.  There will be no fees for this class.

South Carolina History -(Laurel P.) 

Students will need to purchase Abeka's My State Notebook ($16.75 plus taxes and shipping on Amazon) and draw from supplemental materials provided by the teacher.  Materials list:  pencils, colored pencils, scissors, writing pen, and notebook paper.  The fee for this class is $20.  

 
3rd Period:
Robots - (Betsy T.) THIS CLASS IS FULL

This is a hands-on class!  We will be making simple "Robots" such as BumperBots, BrushBots, and Propeller cars.  We will learn about how and why robots are made.  There is a $20 fee for this class.

 
Cultures and Countries - (Rachael N.)

In this class, the students will be learning map skills and using them to explore our beautiful world and several of the cultures it holds. We will explore in many ways, sometimes through crafts, food, books, short videos, and so much more. There will be a $5 fee for this class.  

 
4th Period:
Cooking with Books - (Tiffany P.) - THIS CLASS IS FULL

We will be using fun storybooks to inspire our cooking fun!  For example, we will read the The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and make a fruit salad.  Another example is Mr. Crum's Potato Predicament, where we will learn the history of how a potato chip was created and we will make some kale chips!  We may even try out our own stone soup!  Please bring an apron and a take home container to class each week.  The students will get their own knife they get to keep at the end of the year.  The fee for this course will be $20 first semester and $5 2nd semester.  

 
LEGOS - (Kristina H.)

This class is designed to bring out your child's creativity.  Each week we will have a new and exciting challenge to create and build.

There is no fee for this class.
